Yammer is Here. Microsoft announced in this blog post that Yammer will be activated in Office 365 tenants moving forward. This will apply to all new tenants as well as existing tenants. For clients that do not want to roll out Yammer, you will now have to disable it.
This is a big deal. Enterprise Social is the next big thing in workplace collaboration. With the rise of social media and the onslaught of millennials in the workplace, it’s only a matter of time before these two trends combine to fundamentally change the way we work. Not convinced? More than 500,000 leading businesses around the world including 85% of the Fortune 500 boost teamwork with Yammer. You can learn more in this report about Bringing Enterprise Social to the Enterprise and the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Social Software.
So Now What?
Our belief is that while some tools such as Skype for Business and Delve can be released and propagated organically, Yammer is not one of them. Similar to SharePoint, Yammer should have at least a basic road map with respect to administration, structure and governance. This allows IT admins to balance fostering collaboration while maintaining appropriate control over the network.
How Do I set up Yammer?
There is a ton of useful information about Yammer both inside and outside of the Microsoft ecosystem. Here are a couple good places to start.
Get a Plan
Yammer really does work when you have a plan, internal champions, and an adoption strategy. This Use Case Catalog provides some great examples of ways that Yammer can be effectively used in any organizations. Additionally, the Six Steps to a Successful Yammer Network provides some great insight into how to Yammer can be deployed in the workplaces.
Train Your Users
Like all new tools, Yammer is most successful when a smart communications and training program accompanies the rollout. Say Hello to Yammer, Yammer Essentials and End-User Training are great resources to start building awareness for your Yammer network.
We at C3 Integrated Solutions can help you understand the impact of Yammer as well as provide best practices on how to deploy it in your organization. Additionally, you can get more information at any of these resources.
